Sexually Aggressive Youth Program
The Pointe Residential Treatment Center SAY Program is a private 14-bed unit,
fully accredited by JCAHO and is licensed by the Children, Youth and Family
Department. The SAY Program is approved for Medicaid and other insurance carriers.
This program is led by our qualified and competent medical staff in psychiatry.
Program
The Program for Sexually Aggressive Youth at The Pointe ARTC is designed to provide intensive treatment for adolescent males, ages 13-18, who have a history of harmful sexual behavior.
The treatment program includes:
- A therapeutic milieu operating in a locked and secure facility
- Individual, group and family therapy
- On-site school program
- Psychiatric treatment
- Aftercare Services
- Treatment for Past Sexual Trauma
- Psycho-educational interventions for residents and families
The core of the treatment process involves engaging the resident and family in treatment, helping residents face up to their sexually harmful behavior, identify the effects of previous trauma, and then develop and practice a plan for eliminating harmful behavior.
Family and community involvement are key components of successful treatment and prevention of further sexually harmful behavior. We work closely with family members, juvenile probation and parole officers, and community-based programs to provide continuity of care and safe transition to a less restrictive level of care.
While community based treatment of sexually aggressive youth is often preferred,
residential treatment is required in cases where young men are not open to discussing
their actions, have a history of repeated offenses, or are seen as too impulsive
or unstable to control their actions and prevent further harm.

Adventure Programming
Adventure activities are challenging, group problem-solving exercises that
combine active involvement including a ropes course and swimming pool. Outings
from the facility for nature hikes, mountain climbing, and rappelling allow
the resident to think about themselves as part of a group, as well as part of
a world with which they are struggling to achieve a new relationship.

Aftercare Services
The Pointe works with aftercare providers throughout the state of New Mexico
who have expertise with this population. In addition, we have a therapist available
to provide direct aftercare as well as consultation to providers throughout
the state.

Referrals
Referrals should have a documented history of sexual harm to others. This may include being adjudicated for a sexually aggressive offense and court ordered to treatment. We believe the coordination of the treatment and the legal system is vital in providing an environment of accountability for our residents.
